Piano for Friday: Debussy’s Arabesque #1

Some Romantic-era music is too dynamic for me, too volatile. Sometimes I like to hear a stormy sea played on a string of ivory, but usually I prefer the stately or the serene, gradual dynamics or consistent liveliness. Debussy wrote some storms, but also some lace in his Impressionist piano compositions. His Arabesque #1 builds up in hurried steps, hesitating for a breathless moment at its heights, then cascades lavishly in a waterfall of notes. Another that I want to learn.
